About Image Tools

Every image on the web eventually needs some kind of adjustment — a photo that's too large to upload, a screenshot that needs cropping, a graphic that needs to switch formats to load faster. FilesFortress's image tools handle these everyday tasks directly in your browser using the Canvas API, so there's no software to install and no file to upload to a third-party server.

The compressor and resizer are the two most commonly used tools here: compression reduces file size while letting you preview the visual quality tradeoff before downloading, and resizing lets you set exact pixel dimensions for a specific use case like a social media post or website hero image. The cropper works alongside these for pulling out a specific region of a larger photo or screenshot.

Format conversion is handled through both a general-purpose Image Converter and dedicated JPG, PNG, and WebP conversion tools. WebP in particular has become the preferred format for web performance, since it typically produces smaller files than PNG or JPG at comparable visual quality — the dedicated PNG to WebP and JPG to WebP tools make that conversion a one-step process.

Beyond resizing and converting, the rotator and flipper handle simple orientation fixes, while the metadata viewer and EXIF remover deal with the hidden information embedded in most photos — camera model, timestamp, and in many cases exact GPS coordinates. Stripping that data before sharing a photo publicly is a genuinely useful privacy step that most people never think to take, and it's fully automated here: the EXIF remover works by re-encoding the image, which clears the embedded metadata in the process.

Because all of this happens client-side, there's no upload queue, no waiting on a server, and no copy of your photo sitting on infrastructure you don't control.
