About FilesFortress
FilesFortress is a free, browser-based toolbox for everyday file tasks — converting, compressing, organizing and inspecting PDFs, images, text and developer files. It was built around a simple idea: file tools should be fast, free, and shouldn't require handing your files over to a stranger's server unless absolutely necessary.
Our mission
We want anyone to be able to merge a PDF, resize a photo, or format a block of JSON without installing software, creating an account, or wondering where their file just went. FilesFortress aims to be the toolbox you reach for by default because it's simply the fastest, least complicated way to get a file task done.
Privacy philosophy
Wherever it is technically possible, FilesFortress processes files entirely inside your browser using JavaScript — your file is read, transformed and made available for download without ever being uploaded anywhere. Tools that require server-side processing are clearly labeled, so you always know how your file is being handled. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Browser-first technology
Modern browsers are capable of surprisingly heavy-duty file processing. FilesFortress uses the Canvas API for image compression, resizing, cropping and format conversion, the Web Crypto API for hash generation, and JavaScript libraries that run entirely client-side for PDF manipulation. FilesFortress leans on that capability instead of routing every request through a server, which keeps tools fast and keeps your files private by default.
Simple, focused tools
Every tool on FilesFortress is built to do one job well. No bloated dashboards, no required sign-ups, no upsells blocking the button you actually came to click.
